What was even the point? Here in this apolcalyptic world, it would just be clear that she didn't have long enough to live, anyways... so why should caring for this body take much precedence?
Either way, a sensation of loss still dug itself deep within the nape of her neck, where she was bitten earlier by that... that disgusting thing! Ikue gritted her teeth at the sheer memory of it. As far as she was concerned, it simply wasn't a zombie but a monster... a monster that she'd rather not be.
Then again, her eventual death shouldn't have mattered to her. It was just that... being by Takasugi's side became the only thing that held value over her own life. As pathetic as this sounded, she really wasn't the cruel and emotionless samurai she wanted to be.
Ikue could have also sworn it was raining in her heart that day, for her face oddly stung with tears, before she could even stop it. Though her mouth quivered, she soon opened it to take a final, deep breath... only for the song to inevitably escape out into the air.
"Boku... doko... shiro... kuro, kimi ni aitakute mata namida dake nandarou? ( Myself, Where, White, Black... I want to see you, but still, tears are falling and isn't that enough? )" her voice wavered with insuppressible emotion, as the shattered remnants of a mermaid's sadness lingered near her chest.
"Kokoro no okusoko tozashita omoide todokanai koe ga hibiki atteku... ( My memories are shut in the very depths of my heart and that unreachable voice still echoes... )"
And now, faced with her anticipated beheading by Takasugi's blade, she lifted up her chin while oceanic hues remained shut.
If anything else, Ikue would rather die while she was still beautiful. Besides, as long as it was him, the mermaid couldn't say she minded entirely.
"...I love you, Ta-kun." she whispered, just moments before her head was sent flying throughout the air.
In a geyser of blood, Ikue's body instinctively tumbled over. Meanwhile, Takasugi remained motionless... allowing the crimson specks of liquid to plummet down onto his cheek and yukata. Within seconds, a demented grin pulled up at the corner of his lips.
"Being loved by such a breathtaking mermaid... I'm flattered."
The sound of metal reverberated against his sheath, as he slid it back down again. Takasugi then strode over to the pair of empty eyes staring back at him on the cold, hardened asphalt. By bending down, the male lifted up her severed head, if only to behold her beauty once more.
Nobody could tell just what kind of face he was making at the moment... only that the very atmosphere itself seemed oddly sinister.
"Rest well up in heaven, Ikue."
Having said this, he had gently closed her eyes with his fingers so no light could pass through them anymore; despite it all, however, Takasugi wondered why the fast, insistent beat continually throbbed inside of him. Quite honestly enough, it was like his inner beast had been writhing in agony.
